Washington, DC — Today, Ultraviolet, an online community of women and men who want to take collective action to expose and fight sexism in the public sector, private sector and the media, launched a campaign emphasizing that politics cannot and should not trump women’s health.

“The reaction from the religious right shows that this was never about religious freedom for them, this is about an all out war on birth control–and I say that as a Catholic woman. They’ve exposed their real motives here–and they’re increasingly isolated as a result. Hopefully next time, the administration will realize this before bending over backwards to accommodate what is a pretty fringe position,” said Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of UltraViolet

“The most important thing is that all women will still have access to birth control coverage without an added burden. But this whole trumped up controversy just shows that politics still comes before what’s best for women and their health and that is not OK,” said Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet.

“Republicans in Congress have been equally out of touch, so we’re going to make sure they hear from our members before pursuing legislative action that would limit women’s access to the health care they need,” added Thomas.
