Women’s Group Blasts MSNBC Anchor Chris Matthews for Sexist Comments About Melania Trump
Yesterday, Chris Matthews, Host of MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews, was caught on the air making remarks about Melania Trump’s appearance. Without realizing his microphone was on, Matthews exclaimed, “Did you see her walk? A runway walk. My God that is good.” He added, “I could watch that runway show.”
Karin Roland, Chief Campaigns Officer of UltraViolet, issued the following the statement on Matthews’ remarks:
“No woman, whether or not she is married to a Presidential candidate, should ever have to be subjected to the kind of shameful and unacceptable sexist language that we watched Chris Matthews exemplify yesterday.”
“Unfortunately, Matthews is no stranger to being in the hot seat for sexist comments about women in politics and even with his own co-anchors over the years. MSNBC should strongly consider Matthews’ role in election coverage going forward. He clearly has not learned that demeaning language like this has a real impact.”
