UltraViolet Demands President Biden Withdraw Nomination of Anti-Abortion Judge Chad Meredith
Statement from Shaunna Thomas, co-founder and executive director of UltraViolet, a leading national gender justice organization:
“It is shocking, disgusting, shameful and totally unacceptable that one of the first actions by this White House following the Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v Wade is to cut a deal with Mitch McConnell to appoint an anti-choice warrior to a lifetime appointment on the federal bench. It is hard to think of a more out of touch move at this moment.
“We call on President Biden to withdraw Chad Meredith’s nomination immediately.
“Make no mistake, Chad Meredith is an anti-abortion extremist with a long record of using his position on the bench to advance right-wing political ideology. The mere fact that Sen. Mitch McConnell wants him on the federal court bench is proof that he should not be seated.
“Across the country, the American people are crying out for leadership from the White House. Appointing federal judges with a record of anti-abortion extremism is not leadership.
“It’s time for President Biden to step up. Striking deals with the man who engineered the right wing takeover of the Supreme Court is the exact opposite of that.”
