NEW YORK—UltraViolet, a national women-led gender-justice organization that works to create a cost for sexism, released the following statement after the jury reached a verdict in the trial against him:

“This is a decisive moment for our justice system, one which threatens to undo the sacrifice of courageous survivors who stepped forward to share their stories in this trial, as well as to all those abused by Diddy who weren’t able to,” said Arisha Hatch, interim executive director of UltraViolet. “Today’s verdict is not just a stain on a criminal justice system that for decades has failed to hold accountable abusers like Diddy, it’s also an indictment of a culture in which not believing women and victims of sexual assault remains endemic. We will continue to stand with the brave women and men who took great risk to reveal the person Diddy really is.”

Survivors described decades of abuse by Diddy, who used his position of power and fame to exploit young women and men alike. Beginning in 2023, a stream of lawsuits gave way to serious and disturbing accusations against the disgraced mogul. Amid allegations of witness intimidation by Combs and his associates, today’s verdict could become a further stain on a criminal justice system that has long failed to give sexual violence cases the respect and attention they deserve.

UltraViolet has been a leading voice in the movement to hold abusers accountable, fighting alongside survivors to achieve victories against Harvey Weinstein, Bill O’Reilly, and Andrew Tate. At a time of heightened backlash against survivors and political attacks on the rights and freedoms of women across the country, efforts to hold powerful men accountable are more crucial than ever.

“We will continue to stand with survivors in the fight against abusers and the companies and institutions that enable them,” Hatch said. “We encourage those interested in joining this movement to sign our pledge to show survivors that you believe them—and that you will fight to end gender-based violence in all of its forms.”
