Women’s Group to NFL: Exclude Gareon Conley from Draft Pending Investigation Into Rape Allegations
Moments ago, TMZ Sports obtained a police report filed in Cleveland in which a woman alleges that Gareon Conley – a projected 1st round pick in the upcoming NFL draft – raped her in a Cleveland hotel. Shortly after the alleged assault, the woman went to a hospital where a rape kit was administered, telling the police “that her dignity was stripped from her in a matter of minutes.” Conley has denied the allegations.
In reaction to the news, Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of UltraViolet, a leading women’s advocacy organization, which has pressured the NFL to take a tougher stand against domestic violence and sexual assault within the league, issued the following statement:
“The NFL must immediately suspend Gareon Conley from the upcoming NFL draft pending a full investigation into the allegations of sexual assault against him. Time and again, Roger Goodell has failed to address the near-epidemic levels of sexual assault and violence within the league – and the fact that Conley has not already been suspended is just one more reason why Goodell must go.”
