GoFundMe campaigns supporting Renee Good’s killer don’t just violate the platform’s policies against fundraising for the legal defense of a person accused of violent crimesthey’re also morally abhorrent and put our communities at risk.

UltraViolet, a leading national women-led gender-justice organization that works to hold the tech and corporate sectors accountable, released the following statement following news of a GoFundMe campaign raising money to support the “legal defense” of Renee Nicole Good’s killer, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jonathan Ross:

“Renee Good was murdered by ICE in cold blood and in plain sight. There can be no equivocation on the gross abuse of force which led to her death, nor can there be any doubt as to the contemptibility of GoFundMe campaigns to support her killer,” said Nicole Regalado, Vice President of Campaigns at UltraViolet. “GoFundMe claims to be committed to helping people, and yet it continues to profit from our pain. Until each and every campaign supporting Jonathan Ross is taken down, GoFundMe will remain complicit in legitimizing ICE’s campaign of terror and violence on our communities.”

Renee Good, a mother and poet, was shot and killed in Minnesota Wednesday after three ICE agents surrounded her car. Video of the incident clearly and harrowingly shows ICE agent Jonathan Ross escalate the interaction before firing three shots into the vehicle as it drove away. Despite GoFundMe’s own policies which explicitly prohibit fundraising on behalf of individuals accused of violent crime, several fundraisers remain up on the platform—with one fundraiser alone racking up more than $600k. There are at least three other pages raising money for Ross’ legal defense on GoFundMe.

This isn’t the first time GoFundMe has received scrutiny for supporting ICE. In 2025, UltraViolet released two petitions (found here and here) condemning the platform for failing to act following reports that ICE agents were scraping user data as part of efforts to wreak havoc on families, communities, and entire cities. Now, UltraViolet has released a new petition signed by more than 12,000 people, this time calling on GoFundMe to take down all fundraisers for Renee Good’s killer.
