THIS WEEK: Local Activists Hold In-District Health Care Speak-Outs Calling on Senators Portman, Collins, Heller and Murkowski to “Keep Their Word” And Vote No on Senate Health Care Repeal Bill
As Senate Republicans Further Delay Health Care Vote, Pressure Mounts on Senators to Protect Their Constituents, Oppose Health Care Repeal
As Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell scrambles to win votes on the latest version of the GOP’s health care repeal bill, members of UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy group will be out in force holding health care speak-outs at in-district offices in Alaska, Maine, Nevada and Ohio urging Senators Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Dean Heller and Rob Portman, who have all previously pledged to oppose the bill, to keep their word and remain a “no” vote on the legislation.
At the health care speak-outs, activists will read aloud personal stories of people in each state who reply on the Affordable Care Act, and deliver the message that real people will be negatively impacted by their legislation, and that Senators have an obligation to oppose it.

“Two weeks ago, Republican Senators Dean Heller, Rob Portman, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski spoke out against the Better Care Reconciliation Act – citing the impact of the Republican health care plan on Medicaid recipients and people with pre-existing conditions in their state – saying they could not vote for a bill like that because it was cruel. Two weeks later, nothing in the bill has changed to address their concerns – but the health care of their constituents in Nevada, Maine, Alaska and Ohio are still on the line,” explained Karin Roland, Chief Campaigns Officer for UltraViolet. “These Republicans have a duty to stand up for their constituents – and we’re asking them to keep their word and continue to oppose the Republican health care plan. The lives of their constituents depend on it!”
