TMRW 9AM: Plane Flies Over Nike Shareholder Meeting Slamming Company’s Continued Financial Ties to Trump
UltraViolet Calls on Nike to Move NYC Niketown Store Out of Trump Tower & Stop Paying Rent to a Dangerous, Racist Trump
BEAVERTON, OREGON – Tomorrow, Thursday, September 21st, UltraViolet, a leading women’s advocacy organization, will fly a plane over Nike’s annual shareholder meeting calling on the company to end their financial support of President Trump and the Trump Organization by moving their New York City NikeTown store out of Trump Tower.
According to reports, Nike pays the Trump Organization more than $200 million to lease out their store, despite having already secured a new location on 5th Avenue. UltraViolet argues that Nike’s financial payment to Trump is against the company’s professed values, citing Trump’s support for white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, and recent decisions to eliminate DACA protections for more than 800,000 immigrant youths. The plane, meant to bring the issue to the attention of shareholders, will read: “NIKE: STOP PAYING RENT TO RACIST TRUMP”
- WHERE: Nike’s Annual Shareholder Meeting. One Bowerman Drive, Beaverton, OR 97005
- WHEN: Thursday, September 21, 9:00 – 10:30 AM PT
“Nike spends obscene amounts of money in advertising each year to brand and align the company with its supposed core mission statement: to bring inspiration and innovation to the world,” said Nita Chaudhary, Co-founder of UltraViolet. “However, Nike’s utter disregard for the fact that they are funneling millions of dollars into the pocket of serial racist, bigot, and misogynist by keeping its flagship NikeTown store in Trump Tower is less than inspiring. If Nike truly intends to stand by its progressive values, they must take immediate action and sever financial ties with Trump. End of story.”
Over 73,800 people have signed onto a petition urging Nike and Starbucks, who also has a storefront located in Trump Tower, to reject Trump’s hateful brand and sever ties with him by ending their leases at Trump Tower as well as other Trump properties.

Earlier this month, UltraViolet launched an ad campaign slamming Starbucks over its continued financial support of President Trump and the Trump Organization, calling on Starbuck’s executive chairman Howard Schultz to take direct action and remove Starbucks stores from Trump properties – including Trump Tower in New York City and Trump Hotel in DC. The campaign targeted Starbucks’ followers on Twitter and Instagram with ads reading, “Pumpkin Spice is Back… [and] Proceeds are funding white supremacy in the White House.”
