With Their “If True” Statements, Donald Trump, Senate Republicans And Alabama Republicans Have All Chosen To Side With Moore; Not The Brave Women Who Have Come Forward
Statement from Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet, a leading national women’s advocacy organization, on the shameful response from the GOP to stories about Roy Moore’s predatory behavior:
“With their self-serving and half-hearted ‘if true’ statements, Republicans from the White House on down have chosen to side with Roy Moore; not with the numerous on-the-record statements from the brave women who have come forward. While not surprising from the party that embraced Donald Trump after the Access Hollywood tape leaked and numerous women came forward to share their stories about his sexual assaults–it is no less shameful, disgusting and outrageous.
“Every time we think Republicans cannot sink any lower, they prove us wrong. The GOP motto now really is, ‘when you are a star, they let you do it.’ Republicans must trust these women, drop their ridiculous and self-serving hedges of ‘if true,’ believe women, and make crystal clear that pedophlies like Roy Moore have no place in the Republican Party or the United States Senate.”
