UltraViolet Renews Call for Sen. Al Franken to Resign Amid Mounting Sexual Assault Allegations

WASHINGTON, DC — UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy group, is renewing its call for Senator Al Franken to resign amid mounting allegations of sexual assault. On November 16th, UltraViolet was one of the first feminist organizations to call for Franken’s resignation, saying that: “All men who commit these acts must be held accountable—regardless of whether they are Democrats and Republicans—no one who does this deserves to be in the Senate, House, or White House.”

With a seventh woman now accusing Franken of sexual harassment and assault, UltraViolet is urging all Senate Democrats to stand with survivors, and call for Franken’s resignation.

Statement from Nita Chaudhary, Co-founder of UltraViolet:

“We believe women. We believe the now seven women who have accused Senator Franken of sexual assault and harassment. It’s long past time that all Senate Democrats believed women, stood with survivors and joined the call for Senator Franken to resign.

“As we have seen with other sexual abusers, there is never just one accuser—this is part of a serial pattern and all people who commit these acts must be held accountable. Sexual harassment and sexual assault has no place in any workplace, or anywhere in society, and certainly not in the US Senate.

“Senator Franken should have resigned weeks ago.”
