New York Airports Reject Ads Reading: “WELCOME TO NEW YORK. WHERE OUR GOVERNOR, ANDREW CUOMO, IS A SEXUAL ABUSER”

UltraViolet Ads Aim to Call Attention to Governor Cuomo’s Abuse of Women, and Highlight the Need for Him to be Removed from Office Immediately

NEW YORK — New York’s largest airports – John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport – have both rejected new ads from UltraViolet, a leading gender justice organization, that read:

“WELCOME TO NEW YORK.
WHERE OUR GOVERNOR, ANDREW CUOMO, IS A SEXUAL ABUSER.”

The ads, designed to greet tourists and returning citizens to the State, aimed to call attention to Governor Cuomo’s documented abuse of women, and highlight the need for him to be immediately removed from office. UltraViolet initially called for Governor Cuomo to resign or be removed from office in March 2021.

The version of the ads were rejected as per airport guidelines citing that “the advertisement or marketing activity contains material that demeans or disparages an individual or group of individuals.”

“If the Attorney General James’ report didn’t make it clear to everyone – we will publish across the State: Governor Cuomo is a sexual abuser and he must be removed from office,” explained Bridget Todd, communications director at UltraViolet. “Attorney General Laticia James conducted a thoughtful, objective and comprehensive report into the allegations against Governor Cuomo and what she found was damning. Cuomo used his position of power as Governor of New York to abuse his employees and sexually harass women and his conduct was a clear violation of state and federal law. Cuomo is unfit for office, and if he refuses to resign from his position as Governor, it is up to New York State’s legislators to remove him. They need to make clear to all New York State employees, and frankly, all survivors of abuse – that this behavior will not be tolerated – and that abusers will be held accountable for their actions.”

Earlier this week, UltraViolet commissioned a plane banner to fly over the State Capitol Building in Albany reading: “THE REPORT IS IN. REMOVE CUOMO NOW.”

UltraViolet signed onto a letter organized by the National Women’s Law Center calling on New York State legislators to remove Governor Cuomo from office.
