UltraViolet & Working Families Party Join Together in Protest After White Supremacist Terror Attack, Riots in Charlottesville
NEW YORK CITY — Moments ago, activists from UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy organization, and the Working Families Party, unveiled a massive banner inside Trump Tower’s lobby reading: “WOMEN RESIST WHITE SUPREMACY.”
The banner drop comes after riots and attacks by white supremacists in Charlottesville over the weekend injured 19 anti-racism protesters and killed 32-year-old Heather Heyer. UltraViolet and Working Families Party dropped the banner inside Trump Tower’s lobby, where President Trump is staying for the day, to demonstrate that women stand in solidarity with anti-racism protesters in Charlottesville and against white supremacy, anti-semitism, homophobia, and sexism.

Following the banner drop, an UltraViolet activist was detained by police inside the Trump Hotel.
“Donald Trump’s response to white supremacist terror attacks in Charlottesville was shameful, cowardly, painfully inadequate and beneath the high office he holds. Racism, anti-semitism, white supremacy – and their anti-women allies – should not be tolerated in American society. Yet, Donald Trump has not only encouraged these hateful and violent groups with a wink and nod, but employed prominent supporters both in his campaign and his White House. If Donald Trump won’t stand up against these hate mongers, including those within his own Administration – women will,” explained Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet.
“Trump has been fanning the flames of white supremacy since the early days of his campaign, in rhetoric and in policy. It cannot come as a surprise when those flames into deadly violence. What happened in Charleston was an act of domestic terrorism, and an attack on the idea of an inclusive nation that works for all our people. Real leadership would be denouncing white supremacy, cleaning house and kicking its adherents out of the administration, and reversing his policies like the border wall and the Muslim ban. We do not expect that leadership. But it’s time for all of us to stand up and be counted. White supremacy, racism, anti-semitism, xenophobia and misogyny may still be alive and well in the White House, but we will stand against them everywhere else across our land,” added Amanda Johnson, Resist Trump campaign director at the Working Families Party.
