SAT 11 AM: Plane Flies Over Iowa’s 4th Congressional District Reading “STEVE KING: WORST FOR WOMEN, BAD FOR IOWA”
Groups Slams Rep. Steve King (R-IA) For Being One of the Worst Members of Congress for Women
SIOUX CITY, IOWA— On Saturday, November 3rd, just days before the 2018 midterm elections, UltraViolet PAC, a leading national women’s group, and American Bridge, have commissioned a plane to fly over Iowa’s 4th Congressional District in an effort to remind voters that Rep. Steve King (R-IA) is bad for women and bad for Iowa. The plane banner will read:
STEVE KING: WORST FOR WOMEN, BAD FOR IOWA
WHERE: Downtown Sioux City, and the surrounding area of Iowa’s 4th Congressional District.
WHEN: Saturday, November 3rd. 11:00am – 1:00pm CT
Earlier this year, UltraViolet PAC and American Bridge, named Rep. Steve King as one of the worst members of Congress for women, citing his legislative record and alliance with President Trump’s dangerous and extreme agenda. King voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, to protect special interests and profits for the 1%, to defund Planned Parenthood, and against a woman’s right to choose.
In recent days, Rep. Steve King has come under additional scrutiny, losing the support of a number of local corporate donors and the National Republican Congressional Committee, over his support for avowed white nationalists and neo-nazis. King endorsed neo-nazi Faith Goldy for Toronto Mayor, and on October 25th, the Washington Post reported that King met with Austrian neo-nazis following a trip to Auschwitz funded by a Holocaust memorial group.
In creating the list of the ‘Worst for Women’ candidates, American Bridge and UltraViolet PAC conducted an analysis of the voting records from the 114th Congress and 115th Congress and narrowed down a list of those who voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, to defund Planned Parenthood, for the GOP tax scam, against a minimum wage hike, and for an unconstitutional abortion ban. The groups also took into consideration other parts of the members’ records and histories, including sexist remarks or discriminatory practices.

“Steve King is a white supremacist, and an active threat to women in Iowa and around the country. Whether it is by voting to end access to health care, opposing fair workplace protections for women, or opposing pathways to justice for survivors of gender-based violence – Steve King has demonstrated a deep and dangerous misogyny that does not represent Iowa’s values, or American values,” explained Shaunna Thomas, co-founder and executive director of UltraViolet PAC. “Steve King is bad for women and bad for Iowa, and we hope voters kick him out of office this election day.”
“Donald Trump has spent the past two years in office recklessly undermining the rights of American women and propping up white supremacists at every opportunity. Congressman King has been at his side every step of the way,” said American Bridge spokeswoman Amelia Penniman. “On Tuesday, Iowa voters have an opportunity to reject everything the Trump-King agenda stands for, and we hope they’ll do just that by sending Congressman King into retirement once and for all.”
