STARTING TUESDAY: Women’s Group to Blanket DC with ‘Roe v. Wade Is More Popular Than Brett Kavanaugh’ Ads

Ad Campaign To Run At Same Time As Kavanaugh’s Congressional Hearing

71 Percent of Voters Support Roe v. Wade, While Only 37 Percent Approve of a Kavanaugh Confirmation

Beginning Tuesday, September 4th, on the first day of Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, leading national women’s group UltraViolet will blanket Capitol Hill with an ad campaign with the message: “Roe v. Wade is more popular than Brett Kavanaugh.” The ads will be on posters throughout Capitol Hill and on taxi cabs throughout the city. The ads reference polls that show that 71 percent of voters in the United Statesbelieve that Roe v. Wade should not be overturned, while Kavanaugh’s approval rating is only 37%—making him the least popular Supreme Court nominee in decades.

“If Brett Kavanaugh is appointed to the Supreme Court, he will undoubtedly be the deciding vote to gut Roe v. Wade and criminalize abortion, bringing us back to a dark chapter in this country’s history that forced women into unsafe, illegal abortion,” said Karin Roland, Chief Campaigns Officer of UltraViolet. “There is a reason that support for Roe is at a historic high while support for Kavanaugh is at a historic low: The American public understands what is at stake with this vote. A Supreme Court with Brett Kavanaugh on it will roll back the rights of hundreds of millions of Americans, turn the clock back on decades worth of progress for women, for the LGBTQ community, for African Americans, for workers, and cement the worst of Donald Trump’s policies for generations to come.”
