THURSDAY in Columbus & Lima: Billboard Truck Circles OSU, Rep. Jim Jordan’s Office, Criticizing Him for Being the “Worst for Women” and “Covering Up Sexual Assault at OSU”

UltraViolet Commissions Billboard Campaign After News That the Department of Education is Investigating Ohio State University for Alleged Sexual Abuse by Former Athletic Doctor, Richard Strauss

On Thursday, August 23rd, UltraViolet Action and UltraViolet PAC, a leading national women’s group, will drive a digital mobile truck billboard around the Ohio State University campus and Congressman Jim Jordan’s Lima Office, denouncing the Congressman for being the “Worst for Women” and “covering up sexual assault at OSU.”

The billboard campaign comes at the heels of news last week that the Department of Education opened an investigation into Ohio State University after allegations of sexual abuse were made against former athletic doctor, Richard Strauss. Four former OSU wrestlers have now gone public with their stories, detailing alleged sexual molestation by Strauss during medical appointments to NBC News. One man said he directly reported the abuse to Jordan; all four said Jordan could not have been unaware of the inappropriate behavior. Last month, Jordan announced that he is running for the House Speaker position that will be vacant upon Paul Ryan’s retirement in January 2019.

WHEN: Thursday, August 23, 2018 | 9:30am – 5:00pm (local time)

On Friday, August 10th, local members of UltraViolet PAC trolled Rep. Jordan by presenting him with the ‘Worst for Women’ award at his district office in Lima. UltraViolet PAC awarded Jordan after he was named in a new campaign targeting more than a dozen members of Congress as the “Worst for Women,” which launched with digital ads and a new micro-site featuring an inaugural legislative scorecard produced by American Bridge and UltraViolet PAC. Jordan was included in the list for his role in the OSU accusations and voting in line with Donald Trump 85 percent of the time. He voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, to protect the special interests and profits for the 1%, to defund Planned Parenthood, and against a woman’s right to choose.

“Not only is Jim Jordan unqualified to be Speaker of the House, he doesn’t deserve to step foot on Capitol Hill,” said Shaunna Thomas, Executive Director of UltraViolet Action. “Throughout his legislative career, Jim Jordan has proven himself to be among the worst for women, actively undermining women’s reproductive health access, blocking their right to freedom from gender-based violence, and opposing economic, racial and immigration justice. Since well before his tenure in Congress, Jim Jordan has been failing survivors of sexual abuse, doing nothing to protect survivors at OSU even when students directly reported the abuse to him. Rep. Jordan’s record tells a very clear story about how much he values the lives of women and sexual abuse survivors, which is why women will make their voices heard at the polls on Election Day,” added Thomas.
