TODAY 12PM: Sexual Assault Survivors Protest Outside Sen. Collins’ Portland Office Demanding She Call on Kavanaugh to Withdraw His Nomination for Supreme Court
Sexual Assault Survivors, Women’s Advocates Say a Sexual Predator Does Not Belong on the Supreme Court
PORTLAND, ME — Today, Monday, September 24th, survivors of sexual assault will rally outside Senator Susan Collins’ Portland office to share their stories, support Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez, and demand that the Senator call for Brett Kavanaugh to withdraw his nomination for the Supreme Court.
Sexual assault survivors and members of the women’s rights group UltraViolet Action will urge Senator Susan Collins to believe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez and reject Kavanaugh, arguing that a sexual predator does not belong in any position of power, let alone on the highest court in the nation.
WHEN: Monday, September 24th, 12:00 pm EST
WHERE: Sen. Collins’ Portland office, Canal Plz, Portland, ME 04101
LOCAL CONTACT: Geeta Ramini, 207-317-0145
“We believe Deborah Ramirez. We believe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. Brett Kavanaugh is a sexual predator and must withdraw his nomination for the Supreme Court,” explained Shaunna Thomas, Executive Director and Co-Founder of UltraViolet Action, a leading national women’s group. “Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez have demonstrated tremendous courage in coming forward and sharing their stories of how Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted them.  Ramirez’s story is yet more proof that Kavanaugh should have already withdrawn his nomination and his wholly disqualified from holding any office in government, let alone one on the highest court in the country.  Now is the time for Senator Collins to make it clear that she believes these brave women and finds violence against women wholly unacceptable by demanding that Kavanaugh withdraw his nomination immediately. Anything less is a betrayal of women—one that voters will remember this November.”
