MAINE — Today, local activists from UltraViolet will deliver a 5ft tall poster of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s leaked email text to Senator Susan Collins’ offices across the state of Maine to remind her, that if confirmed, Kavanaugh would provide the fifth vote needed to overturn Roe v. Wade and criminalize abortion.

According to the Times, Kavanaugh proposed deleting a line in a ghostwritten opinion piece that read “it is widely accepted by legal scholars across the board that Roe v. Wade and its progeny are settled law of the land,” with Kavanaugh writing “I am not sure that all legal scholars refer to Roe as the settled law of the land at the Supreme Court level since the Court can always overrule its precedent, and three current Justices on the Court would do so.”
“It is now crystal clear that a vote for Brett Kavanaugh is a vote to gut Roe v. Wade and criminalize abortion, bringing us back to a dark chapter in this country’s history where women were forced into deadly, unsafe and illegal abortions. Despite his efforts yesterday to mislead the Senate and the American people, the truth is out now,” explained Shaunna Thomas, co-founder and executive director of UltraViolet, a leading national women’s group. “Senator Susan Collins, who said she would not vote for a nominee who would overturn Roe v. Wade, must keep her promise and reject Kavanaugh’s nomination.”
