WASHINGTON, DC — Moments ago, the White House abandoned plans to nominate a Kentucky lawyer who opposes abortion rights as a federal judge with a lifetime appointment
In response, Sonja Spoo, director of reproductive rights at UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy organization, issued the following statement:
“This is the right thing to do and we applaud the President for not advancing this nomination. The last thing we need at this moment is more anti-choice judges with lifetime appointments.
“Tens of thousands of UltraViolet members told President Biden not to nominate Judge Meredith. It’s clear the president is listening to the voices of women across the country who are asking for strong leadership from the president we elected. Pulling Chad Meredith from consideration shows that the president understands the stakes of this moment and the opportunity for leadership on the right side of history.”
“We ask the president to continue to lean into the clear mandate he has from the American people to protect abortion access to the maximum level.”
