UltraViolet Calls on Scott Stringer to Withdraw from NYC Mayoral Race Following Second Sexual Misconduct Allegation Against Him
NEW YORK — Five weeks after Jean Kim accused Scott M. Stringer, a New York City mayoral candidate of unwanted sexual advances, a second woman, Teresa Logan has come forward with similar allegations of sexual harassment against Stringer from when she worked for him nearly three decades ago.
According to the New York Times, “In an interview, she accused Mr. Stringer of once groping her as she carried trays, making unwanted sexual advances, including kissing and groping, outside the workplace at least twice and treating her in a manner that often made her uncomfortable.”
In reaction to the mounting sexual misconduct allegations against him, UltraViolet, a leading national gender-justice organization, is calling on Scott Stringer to withdraw from the New York City mayoral race. In a statement, Shaunna Thomas, co-founder and executive director of UltraViolet explained:
“The mounting allegations against Scott Stringer are deeply disturbing. They reveal a pattern of sexual harassment and misconduct that should not be tolerated in any workplace, or by any person, let alone a public figure.
The accusations against Stringer, coupled with his deeply problematic responses to these accusations, demonstrate that he is unfit to serve as Mayor of the largest city in this country. Stringer should withdraw from the New York City mayoral race and commit to addressing the harm he has caused.
“Women like Jean Kim Boyan and Teresa Logan put everything on the line when they come forward with their experiences in the hopes that the abuser will be held accountable. We are grateful to Jean and Teresa for courageously sharing their stories, and we stand behind them.”
