UltraViolet Signs On to #MakeMarkListen Campaign Ahead of Meta’s AGN on May 24

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today UltraViolet announced its participation in #MakeMarkListen, a national effort to mobilize support for corporate accountability at Meta ahead of the company’s upcoming annual general meeting on May 24.

“Mark Zuckerberg needs Meta’s dual class stock structure to avoid oversight and consequences for his shady leadership,” said Bridget Todd, communications director at UltraViolet, a national gender equity organization. “Big Tech CEOs with unchecked power have huge implications for all of us. Although Zuckerberg owns about 12.8 percent of Meta, he has more voting power than all ordinary shareholders combined. Big Tech companies like Meta spend lavishly on lobbying efforts to thwart government regulations that would make social media platforms safer.

“It’s more important than ever for lawmakers and regulators to show their independence by checking Big tech companies. It’s why Congress must pass the Free-Market Accountability Through Investor Rights (FAIR) Act and require big tech companies like Meta to provide all investor shares with equal voting rights.”

UltraViolet joins the #MakeMarkListen campaign as the validity of Meta’s dual class stock structure is questioned by shareholders ahead of the company’s annual general meeting later this month.
