Ultraviolet Thanks Progressive Congressional Caucus for Unwavering Support of Build Back Better Agenda

Washington, D.C. – Today, shortly after a delay on a vote for the highly anticipated infrastructure bill, national women’s advocacy group UltraViolet issued a statement thanking Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, Congresswoman Katy Porter and the Congressional Progressive Caucus for their unwavering support for President Biden’s entire Build Back Better agenda.

Sonja Spoo, UltraViolet’s director of federal coalitions and campaigns, issued the following statement in response:

“We want to publicly relay our gratitude to the leadership of Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, Congresswoman Katy Porter and the Congressional Progressive Caucus, who are fighting to help millions of Americans and working families in support of President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda.

“As Congressional gridlock holds up critical votes for President Biden’s infrastructure bill and budget reconciliation package, progressive electeds are continuing to hold firm stances in support of this legislation, which would provide a foundation to rebuild an economy desecrated by a global pandemic and help the many Americans who are in desperate need of assistance.

“We can’t build back better without centering women, especially Black women, Indigenous women and women of color. Their votes put Democrats in power yet they have endured the brunt of costly impacts from the pandemic. Investments in roads and bridges are not enough if people cannot work because of childcare constraints and lack of paid leave to care for loved ones, among other barriers.

“We are proud of our elected progressives, who take cues from women organizing around the nation. Thank you to the progressive members of Congress who hold their values and promises to constituents above partisanship.”
