UltraViolet Urges More Robust Response From Corporations Including Disney, Comcast, Meta, JP Morgan Chase After SCOTUS Overturns Roe v. Wade
Gender equity group demands corporations stop bankrolling anti-abortion politicians after Supreme Court ruling guts constitutional right to abortion
Earlier today, the Walt Disney Co. announced the company will fund travel expenses for employees seeking reproductive healthcare following the Supreme Court’s controversial ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
In response to Disney’s announcement, Sonja Spoo, director of reproductive rights campaigns at UltraViolet, a leading national gender equity organization, issued the following statement:
“Disney’s decision to fund travel costs for their employees is the right thing to do. However, Disney is the second largest funder of anti-abortion politicians in Florida, with more than $166,000 in political donations to Florida lawmakers. Those contributions helped make today’s Supreme Court ruling possible. Consumers and workers alike will be asking: what side are you on? Corporations have to answer and account for how they spend their political dollars.
“While we commend businesses like Disney for doing the right thing by their employees, corporations must do more in order to ensure that their employees and consumers are able to access basic reproductive healthcare services, including abortion.
“Disney took an important first step today, but this should only be the beginning. With companies like Disney, JP Morgan Chase, Meta, and Comcast now covering travel expenses for their employees in need of abortion care, they must also acknowledge that their financial contributions to anti-abortion political candidates conflict with their corporate values and pledge to stop giving to these extremists going forward.”
Earlier this year, UltraViolet released a report with data that Disney was the second largest contributor to elected officials in Florida who supported the State’s 15-week abortion ban. According to UltraViolet’s analysis, 69% of Disney’s political donations went to anti-abortion lawmakers in Florida, totalling $166,100 in contributions.

This month, UltraViolet released new data showing that political campaign spending from 111 of America’s largest companies heavily supports anti-abortion politicians who favor abortion bans in 26 states. The group also launched a new website supporting this data that details where corporate donations and corporate PACS most prominently support anti-choice politicians, how much they spend per state, and how concerned citizens can become civically involved.
