Women’s Group Applauds New Grand Jury Indictments in Steubenville Rape Case

Statement by Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of Ultraviolet, a national women’s advocacy organization, on the news that a Grand Jury has indicted four more school officials in connection to the Steubenville teen rape investigation:
“Women and their allies in Ohio and across the country are applauding Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, and the Ohio grand jury for indicting four additional school officials in connection to the Steubenville teen rape case. These latest indictments are a clear sign that when people speak up, we can make a difference and show that a culture of violence and rape will not ever be tolerated. UltraViolet members celebrate all those who worked so hard for justice in Steubenville, and will continue to push until justice has been served.”
More than 200,000 women and members of UltraViolet signed petitions calling for further investigations and accountability for all involved in the cover-up of the rape. Making phone calls, attending rallies and chipping into to support the campaign, UltraViolet members were crucial in bringing attention to this originally ignored tragedy.
