Statement from Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of UltraViolet, a leading national women’s organization, in reaction to Senator Dianne Feinstein’s praise of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, and Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett:
“Senator Feinstein must resign from the Senate Judiciary Committee, effective immediately. Feinstein’s continued failure to stand up to Republicans in the Senate as they pack our Courts and hijack our democracy disqualifies her to continue to lead the party on the extremely important Senate Judiciary Committee.
“Her embrace, both literal and rhetorical, of Lindsey Graham and Amy Coney Barrett after today’s hearings shows that she is simply not willing to stand up to the GOP’s depraved powergrab that will upend the rights of women for decades to come.
“Donald Trump is an impeached president who has promised to appoint someone who is determined to gut the ACA and abortion rights–and Senator Graham is his partner in crime in this endeavor. Pretending as if this confirmation, this nominee, and the antics of Senate GOP is business as usual shows how out of step Feinstein is with the public at this critical moment for our nation. The stakes could not be any higher this election season. Abortion rights, healthcare, voting rights, environmental protections, civil rights–the list goes on.
“It is time someone new steps into leadership for the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee–one who is actually willing to go to bat for our freedoms and democracy.”
