Women’s Group Demands Board Fire Athenahealth CEO Jonathan Bush Over Growing Domestic Violence, Sexual Harassment Allegations
Ahead of Athenahealth’s Shareholder Meeting, UltraViolet Demands Action
Over the weekend, Bloomberg News, and other outlets reported on the expanding allegations that Athenahealth Inc. CEO Jonathan Bush assaulted his ex-wife and subjected a female employee to a ‘sexually hostile environment’ as well as other sexual harassment allegations. While the Board of Directors has remained silent on the mounting allegations, at Athenahealth Inc’s shareholder meeting, the company will attempt to fend off a takeover proposal from an activist investor.
Ahead of the shareholder meeting, Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of UltraViolet, a leading national women’s organization, issued the following statement, demanding that the Board of Directors take action to remove Bush:
“Violence against women is a public health issue, so it’s particularly outrageous that the Athenahealth Inc’s Board of Directors has allowed an admitted domestic abuser and accused sexual harasser to remain CEO.  The Board of Directors at Athenahealth have an obligation to make sure that all employees are in a safe working environment, and that is clearly not possible under the leadership of CEO Jonathan Bush.
“Athenahealth’s slogan is ‘we put people first’ – now they must live up to that.  It’s time the Board of Directors take immediate action to remove Jonathan Bush from his leadership position, and send a clear signal that they take violence against women seriously.”
