Women’s Group: Despite Moonves’ Departure, CBS’ Problem With Sexual Harassment and a Toxic Workplace Culture Continues
NEW YORK — Yesterday, as CBS announced that Les Moonves would be leaving his role as CEO and Chair of the Board following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against him, a seventh woman has come forward to accuse ‘60 Minutes’ executive producer Jeff Fager of harassment and assault. Earlier this year, Fager was put on leave, but allowed to return to the company as an investigation into his actions remains ongoing.
Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of UltraViolet, a leading national women’s group, who called Moonves’ departure from the company “a victory for the courageous women who came forward to share their stories”, explained:
“Despite Moonves’ departure from CBS, the network continues to grapple with a deeply ingrained culture of sexual harassment and misconduct. For a clear example of that, one doesn’t have to look any further than 60 Minutes executive producer Jeff Fager.
“Despite clear and mounting accusations against Fager, CBS has allowed him to return to work while it conducts an investigation into his conduct, putting CBS employees’ safety at risk.
“If CBS plans to take sexual harassment and assault allegations seriously, they will need to conduct a thorough review of their sexual harassment prevention and reporting policies—and that will start with firing Fager.”
