Women’s Group Reacts to Reports that Missouri’s Only Abortion Clinic Could Be Shut Down This Week, Ending Legal Abortion Access in the State

MISSOURI— The last remaining abortion clinic in Missouri says it expects to be shut down this week, ending access to legal abortion in the state.

In reaction to the news, Shaunna Thomas, Executive Director and Co-Founder of UltraViolet, a leading national women’s group, issued the following statement:

“Missouri is poised to become the first state without a single health center that provides abortion. Shame on extremist lawmakers in Missouri for putting the lives and livelihoods of millions of Missourians in grave danger.”

“The majority of Americans support a woman’s right to choose. Innumerable polls and studies have shown this to be true. However, Republicans in Missouri would rather let people die than provide them with their constitutional rights to a safe and legal medical procedure. UltraViolet will fight with Planned Parenthood against this and every attack on the right to access reproductive health care.”
