This Letter Calling Out “Sexist” 2020 Coverage Demands Women Candidates Get Treated Fairly
The media needs to change how it treats women candidates vying for the presidency in the 2020 election, according to a coalition of women’s rights groups. At least 20 organizations signed a letter calling out “sexist” 2020 coverage of women candidates in the 2020 Democratic primary. Furthermore, the groups laid out three demands they believe will ensure women candidates receive equal coverage and are treated fairly.
Organizations like Ultraviolet Action, Emily’s List, Feminist Majority Foundation, Not Without Black Women, Women’s March, and others highlighted what they believe are big problems with the press coverage of women candidates.

Hundreds of sexual assault survivors call for dismissal of upstate New York judge who did not send child rapist to prison
The women’s advocacy group UltraViolet is asking the New York Commission on Judicial Conduct to remove McClusky. Nearly 35,000 people have signed their petition, including more than 675 survivors of sexual assault, the group said Wednesday.
“No one should have to go through an entire court case just to be told that their assault didn’t matter, but that’s what Judge McClusky said,” UltraViolet said in a letter to the commission.

Police Officer Responsible For Assaulting Dyma Loving Formally Charged
Police Officer Alejandro Giraldo, responsible for brutally assaulting Dyma Loving on March 5 in Miami Dade County, has been officially charged with first-degree misdemeanor battery and third-degree felony official misconduct, according to a statement from her lawyer. The disgraced cop turned himself in to authorities this morning.
For weeks, activists in the Miami area have been putting pressure on State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle to charge Giraldo in the case. A Color of Change petition demanded the state lock the officer up, while another petition from UltraViolet called for the Miami Dade Police Department to fire Giraldo as soon as possible.

Women’s Group Flies Plane Over Netflix HQ to Urge Georgia Production Ban Over Anti-Abortion Law
National women’s advocacy group UltraViolet took its Netflix protest to the next level earlier today by flying a plane over the streaming giant’s headquarters in Los Gatos, California in order to urge the company to stop filming in Georgia. UltraViolet has been leading the charge against Netflix in the wake of Georgia’s proposed anti-abortion law, HB 481. The law seeks to ban abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, which is before many women know they’re pregnant. Ultraviolet is calling on Netflix to stop filming in Georgia until the law is vetoed or repealed.

‘Fox News should fire Tucker Carlson immediately’ for perverted comments on young girls, women’s group demands
“Tucker Carlson is a dangerous misogynist. Carlson’s defense of domestic abusers and child rapists, and his perverted comments about young girls, are nothing short of horrifying. Unfortunately, they’re also not surprising,” stated Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of the women’s group UltraViolet. “This report shows exactly who he is and has always been. Fox News should fire Tucker Carlson immediately.”

Women’s Groups on 2020: How Can We Choose Among Warren, Klobuchar, Harris, Gillibrand and Gabbard?
But Shaunna Thomas, executive director of women’s rights group UltraViolet, said she would be surprised if many of these organizations endorsed in the primary. UltraViolet did not endorse in 2016, and Thomas said that this year—with so many strong women candidates—there is little incentive for any women’s group to do so.
“There is all the incentive in the world for us to create the conditions for all of these candidates to continue to vie for women as a constituency and to center their needs,” she said. “I’d be shocked if women’s groups jumped in to endorse a bunch of different candidates… if for no other reason than because we need all of them to center women.”
