Survivor Justice Organizations Call on Representative Max Miller to Resign. Now.

Following multiple credible allegations of intimate partner and child abuse against Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio), including from his ex-wife, UltraViolet Action, a leading national women-led gender-justice organization responsible for numerous impactful campaigns that create a cost for sexism and gender-based violence, and Reckoning Action, a new organization built to confront misogyny and gender bias in American public life, released the following joint statement calling on Miller to resign from Congress.

“The allegations of abusive behavior against Representative Max Miller (R-OH) are credible, egregious and revealing. They show a clear pattern of violence against women.

“These allegations demand a full investigation, and Miller is entitled to due process. But the severity of his purported crimes raises serious safety concerns — for his staffers, his colleagues in Congress, and for the constituents he represents. No one should be forced to work alongside him. Miller cannot credibly claim to represent the women, families, and survivors in his district while facing these allegations.

“Miller’s attempts to evade accountability only raise our suspicions. His video statement and the leaked audio recordings involving his ex-wife follow the well-documented pattern known as DARVO — Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender — a tactic commonly used by abusers to deflect accountability by denying abuse, attacking those who come forward, and portraying themselves as the true victim. Survivors and allies can see right through these craven tactics, and so will the American people.

“We applaud Emily Moreno, Stephanie Grisham and the other anonymous women who have stepped forward to reveal Miller’s true character. We know that their bravery comes at a cost to their safety and privacy. Their courage demands action.

“Survivor justice groups UltraViolet Action and Reckoning Action have joined forces with one demand: Max Miller must resign from Congress — immediately.

“Members of Congress, no matter their political party, are entrusted with serving the American people and upholding the dignity of the office they hold. Someone facing multiple credible allegations of violence against women cannot meet that standard.”
