UltraViolet Slams Rep. Blake Farenthold for Attacking Republican Women
Earlier today, Representative Blake Farenthold (R-TX) said it is “absolutely repugnant” that the Republican led Senate has not acted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, targeting “some female senators from the Northeast,” as explanation for the bill’s unpopularity. Farenthold added, “If it was a guy from south Texas, I might ask him to step outside and settle this Aaron Burr-style.”
Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet, released the following statement in response:
“First, Republicans release a cruel health care repeal bill that will force women to undergo literal and visceral damage along the way. Then, a Republican Congressman attacks women in his own party for doing their job and expressing their views. It’s clear that the Republican Party, their president and their policies are sending a message to American women: ‘We don’t respect you’.
“Given these shocking—yet unsurprising—realities, it’s no wonder that women are the driving force behind the resistance.”
