The following is a statement from Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet in response to Bernie Sanders labeling Planned Parenthood as part of the “political establishment”:
“We proudly stand with Planned Parenthood and we would expect that all of those who believe in a woman’s right to make her own health-care decisions would stand with them too. Planned Parenthood provides critical care to 2.7 million of the most underserved women and men across this country every year. They are not a political football to be tossed around for political gain — by Democrats or Republicans. At this time when Planned Parenthood, and women’s health care in general, is under daily attack from Republicans and right wing extremists, the choice by Senator Sanders to malign such an important organization for women on national television is particularly disappointing. We stand with Planned Parenthood: Care. No matter what.”
“Also, we’d remind Senator Sanders that Planned Parenthood, NARAL and Human Rights Campaign are vital elements of the progressive movement who advocate for millions everyday. We’re better when we stand together as progressives, not try to divide each other.”
