SUNDAY 11AM: UltraViolet Flies Plane Banners Over AK, ME, AZ Thanking Senators Who Voted Against Skinny ACA Repeal Bill

UltraViolet Applauds Senators Murkowski & Collins for Standing Their Ground Against the GOP’s Health Care Repeal Effort, and McCain for His “No” Vote on Thursday

This Sunday and Monday, UltraViolet, a leading women’s advocacy organization who has been staging protests against the ACA repeal and replacement plan since November, will fly plane banners over Anchorage, Portland, and Phoenix thanking Sens. Lisa Murkowski (AK), Susan Collins (ME), and John McCain (AZ) for voting with Democrats to defeat the GOP’s skinny ACA repeal bill on Thursday.

The banners will applaud each respective Senator for their “no” votes and urge them to continue fighting against future Republican health care legislation.

“UltraViolet and its members applaud Senators Murkowski, Collins, and McCain for rejecting the ‘skinny’ ACA repeal plan last night,” said Nita Chaudhary, Co-founder of UltraViolet. “Without their votes, people across the country would still be feeling immense doubt and uncertainty, watching as the GOP treats the fate of our nation’s health care coverage like a political game.

“To be clear: Murkowski and Collins in particular have stood their ground against the Republican health care repeal plan from the beginning, despite the pathetic and disgusting tactics used against them–tactics only a party led by Donald Trump would resort to–including cyber-bullying, threats of physical harm and political retribution. We thank them for embodying the true meaning of voting with a conscience and for dealing a heavy blow to the GOP’s efforts to strip health care coverage from millions.

“We hope Senators Murkowski, Collins and McCain will continue to courageously disapprove of and actively vote against any health care plan that kicks Americans off of their coverage.”

Senators Murkowski and Collins have voted against three health care bills the GOP has tried to push through the Senate, and Murkowski and Collins were the only Republicans who voted against a motion to proceed with the health care bill debate earlier this week.
