The Graham-Cassidy bill would strip healthcare from up to 32 million Americans, including 13 million women deprived of maternity care. The bill would also allow states to revoke protections for people with pre-existing conditions, making it harder for those individuals to find health insurance, severely cut Medicaid spending by 31% for children and 15% for the disabled, and prevent Medicaid policyholders from using their insurance at Planned Parenthood, even if Planned Parenthood is the only health care provider in their area.
“Many Republicans, including Senators John McCain and Susan Collins, and Democrats alike agree that the Graham-Cassidy bill would take a wrecking ball to healthcare in our country,” said Karin Roland, Chief Campaigns Officer at UltraViolet Action. “This bill basically guarantees that America’s most vulnerable citizens, namely children, low income individuals, and women, will be put at a substantial disadvantages when it comes to basic medical care. The bottom line here is that 32 million people could lose their healthcare if this bill is passed, so we can’t afford to relax or sit back while Senators Alexander, Murkowski, Portman, and Capito weigh out their options.”
