Digital Truck Billboard Follows Sen. McConnell to Town Halls in Kentucky Highlighting Importance of ACA; Wisconsinites Deliver Glittery Postcards to Speaker Ryan’s Janesville Home After Constituents Complain of Congressional Call Lines Being Jammed

New Tumblr, CantAffordtoLose, Features Stories From People Across the Country Who Rely on the ACA and are Ready to Share Their Stories with the Media

WASHINGTON, DC — Next week, members of UltraViolet Action, a national women’s advocacy organization, will be taking place in #ResistanceRecess actions at town hall events across the country. The massive mobilization of women’s rights advocates – with members planning to attend more than 125 town hall events – is designed to let Republican members of Congress know the full size of the pro-woman, pro-healthcare movement – and how their constituents are staunchly against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

At the town hall events, UltraViolet Action members will share stories about why the Affordable Care Act is so important to them. A new tumblr, CantAffordToLose, highlights the stories of more than 50 UltraViolet Action members on how the Affordable Care Act literally saved their lives, or the lives of their loved ones. Everyone who submitted a story to the website is ready to share their story with media.

As part of the massive #ResistanceRecess mobilization, UltraViolet Action members will also be targeting GOP Congressional leadership – specifically Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.

In Kentucky: As Senator Mitch McConnell holds events throughout the State, a digital billboard truck will follow him from event to event and highlight the dangers of repealing the Affordable Care Act on Kentuckians. The digital truck billboard directly addresses Senator McConnell with the message: “Your Plans to Take Away Our Health Care are Making Us Sick. Signed, Kentuckians.

UltraViolet’s billboard will be at the following events:

On Tuesday, February 21st at 12:00pm ET:

Anthony Stratton Building. 1026 County Park Road. Lawrenceburg, KY

On Wednesday, February 22nd at 11:30am ET:

Louisville Marriott. 1903 Embassy Square Blvd. Jeffersontown, KY

On Thursday, February 23rd at 11:30am ET:

Hotel Covington. 638 Madison Ave, Covington, KY

The billboard notes that repealing the Affordable Care Act would eliminate health care coverage for roughly 400,000 Kentucky residents who rely on Medicaid expansion for insurance, and highlights stories from Kentuckians on why the Affordable Care Act is so important to them.

In Wisconsin: On Wednesday, February 22nd, Wisconsin residents joined by members of UltraViolet will deliver tens of thousands of glittery postcards to the Janesville home of Rep. Paul Ryan. Many of Ryan’s constituents say they were unable to reach the Speaker of the House’s congressional office call line to submit comments about a variety of their concerns, including Congress’ failure to hold the Trump Administration accountable and the Republicans’ plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

“Next week, UltraViolet Action members will be out in force at town hall events across the country sending a clear signal to Republicans in Congress that the giant pro-woman, pro-healthcare movement will stand against them in their plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act, deport undocumented immigrants and cut off critical access to reproductive health care,” explained Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet Action. “Congressional Republicans, led by President Trump, want to take us back to a time where women paid more for health insurance and millions of Americans died unable to affordable care. Our message is simple: we won’t let this happen.”

Ahead of the #ResistanceRecess action, UltraViolet Action members held 13 in-district meetings with 8 Senators, including: Senator Murkowski of Alaska, Senator Flake of Arizona, Senator McCain of Arizona, Senator Donnelly of Indiana, Senator Collins of Maine, Senator McCaskill of Missouri, Senator Tester of Montana, Senator Heller of Nevada, and Senator Portman of Ohio.

More than 53,000 UltraViolet members signed a petition to members of Congress calling on them to save the Affordable Care Act – and thousands shared their stories with the Senator’s offices directly. UltraViolet members also have poured hundreds of calls into Senate offices. Following member calls, meetings, and letters to the editor, Sens. Collins and Murkowski repeatedly started expressing concerns to the media about repealing the Affordable Care Act, and outright opposition to ending Planned Parenthood funding.
