UltraViolet Action on President-Elect Trump’s Selection of Rep. Tom Price for HHS Secretary
Statement from Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of UltraViolet Action, a national women’s advocacy organization, on President-elect Donald Trump’s selection of Representative Tom Price (R-GA) for Secretary of Health and Human Services:
“With the selection of Rep. Tom Price as HHS Secretary, President-elect Trump is doubling-down on the Republican war on women and making it clear that under his administration, a woman’s fundamental right to basic reproductive health care is in jeopardy.
“Rep. Tom Price is an extreme anti-abortion crusader who voted repeatedly to take away a woman’s control of her own body. In 2007, Price cosponsored the “Right to Life Act”, which would have banned abortion from the moment of fertilization. He has been an outspoken critic of the Affordable Care Act and its requirement that insurers offer birth control and contraception to women.
“Rep. Price and President-elect Trump want to bring our country back to a time before reproductive health care access and a woman’s right to choose; this is unacceptable. Senate Republicans and Democrats must reject Trump’s selection of Rep. Price, an extreme anti-woman activist, and protect a woman’s right to access affordable health care, including birth control.”
