UltraViolet:  All People Deserve a Safe, Harassment-Free Workplace – Including Ivanka Trump

Yesterday, Donald Trump defended former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, a serial sexual harasser, and said that if his daughter, Ivanka Trump, was harassed in the workplace that “I would like to think she would find another career or find another company if that was the case.”

Responding to Donald Trump’s latest comments, Nita Chaudhary, co-founder for UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy organization, issued the following statement:

“Trump’s comments – that his daughter Ivanka Trump should just find another job if she was sexually harassed rather than pursue justice – are all too revealing.

“Clearly, Trump doesn’t understand that harassers, not women, are responsible for sexual harassment – and there are federal laws against it. Trump is telling women to not get harassed instead of telling men like Roger Ailes to stop harassing women. These comments are actively dangerous for women – and no one qualified to be President would utter them.

“No woman should ever be expected to upend her career because she was targeted by a sexual predator. The right to work in a safe and harassment-free environment is a fundamental, nonpartisan issue; something that all people in the workplace deserve. We need a President who will defend and fight for victims of harassment, not blame them.

This morning, Eric Trump told POLITICO that Ivanka Trump would not tolerate sexual harassment, explaining “…Ivanka is a strong, powerful woman, she wouldn’t allow herself to be objected to it, and by the way, you should take it up with Human Resources, and I think she would as a strong person, at the same time, I don’t think she would allow herself to be subjected to that…”
