Women’s Group Says Fast-Food CEO Has Track Record of Misogyny, Labor Violations, and Domestic Abuse

Statement from Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy organization, on President-elect Trump’s selection of fast food CEO Andy Puzder for Labor Secretary and other cabinet appointments:

“It gets worse every day.

“President-elect Trump ran a campaign fueled by misogyny, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone that he’s now assembling the most anti-woman cabinet in modern history.  But the selection of fast-food CEO Andy Puzder for Labor Secretary represents a unique threat to workers and women.

“Puzder has a record of prioritizing advertising campaigns that degrade women and fighting against workers owed overtime pay; he opposed the expansion of the Affordable Care Act, increases in the minimum wage, worked to block paid family and medical leave policies, and allegedly engaged in multiple wage and hour violations as CEO of Carl’s Jr and Hardee’s restaurants. He has even been accused of domestic violence.

“On the campaign trail, Ivanka Trump promised that her father would be a strong advocate for working women, but by picking Puzder, it’s clear that could not be further from the truth.

“Plain and simple – the Secretary of Labor needs to be an advocate for working Americans, but throughout his career, fast food CEO Andy Puzder has proven himself to be the exact opposite.  He will be bad for women, bad for workers, and bad for women who work.”
