UltraViolet Reacts to Pelosi’s Disregard for E. Jean Carroll Sex Assault Accusation Against President Trump: “Pelosi’s Refusal to Act is An Insult to Survivors”

UltraViolet Urges Congress to Hold Trump Accountable After E. Jean Carroll Becomes the Latest Person to Accuse Trump of Sexual Abuse

Moments ago, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she “hasn’t been paying much attention” to a report that Donald Trump raped E. Jean Carroll in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 1990s when asked about the allegation during a Capitol Hill press conference.

Shaunna Thomas, Executive Director of the leading national women’s group, UltraViolet, issued the following statement in response:

“The notion that, with over 20 allegations of sexual assault against the President of the United States and counting, the House of Representatives isn’t obligated to open investigations into these accusations, is irresponsible and insensitive to sexual assault survivors everywhere.

“House Democrats can walk and chew gum at the time. Speaker Pelosi knows this, and her refusal to act is an insult to survivors of sexual assault and everyone who wants to end the epidemic of sexual assault in this country. The American people must be able to rest assured that the President will be held accountable for his actions and abuses of dozens of women. In fact, 70% of Americans want Trump investigated for sexual harassment and assault. So do more than 80,000 UltraViolet members.

“Enough is enough. Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats must give women like E. Jean Carroll the justice they deserve by taking the steps necessary to investigate Trump’s innumerable acts of sexual violence against women.”

Earlier this month, after reports surfaced about E. Jean Carroll’s allegation, UltraViolet renewed its call for the United States House of Representatives to investigate Trump for sexual assault and harassment in response to Carroll’s story. The petition has been signed by over 80,000 people and counting.
