UltraViolet Renews Online Ads Asking Fox News Employees “Have You Been Sexually Harassed by Bill?”

Thousands Join Women’s Group in Demanding Network Fire O’Reilly, Stop Covering Up Sexual Harassment Claims

UltraViolet, a leading national women’s advocacy organization, has renewed a series of ads targeting Fox News and its employees, with a message reading, “Have You Been Sexually Harassed by Bill?”  With reports that more women at the network have yet to come forward with allegations against O’Reilly, UltraViolet is urging women to come forward and push Fox News to fire O’Reilly and finally put an end to enabling harassers.

Last week, after an investigation by The New York Times revealed that Fox News has spent more than $13 million dollars defending host Bill O’Reilly from allegations of sexual harassment and other inappropriate behavior, UltraViolet renewed its call for the network to fire the O’Reilly Factor host.  UltraViolet has been a leading organization in calling for major companies that advertise on the O’Reilly Factor to pull their ads in the demand for accountability and warns that unless Fox News adequately addresses a culture of sexual harassment – advertisers could find themselves inadvertently funding other sexual abusers.

Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of UltraViolet explained:

“With new reports that additional women at Fox News have yet to come forward with allegations against Bill O’Reilly, this scandal is only just beginning.

“The problem is that instead of holding a serial sexual abuser accountable for his crimes, Fox News executives decided to defend O’Reilly, spending millions on his defense and settling multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault on his behalf.

“Fox News has promised thorough investigations into sexual abuse at the company in the past – but after spending more than a decade covering up Bill O’Reilly’s sexual abuse – it’s hard to take that promise seriously.  If Fox News really wanted to protect its employees by ending their disgusting culture of sexual harassment – they would start by firing Bill O’Reilly today.”

Since August 2016, UltraViolet has called for Fox News to fire Bill O’Reilly and launch a full investigation into sexual harassment and abuse at the network.

  • In August 2016, following claims that Andrea Tantaros was sexually harassed by Bill O’Reilly, UltraViolet called for the O’Reilly Factor host to be immediately suspended, and a full investigation launched into sexual harassment and abuse at the news network.
  • In January 2017, after the New York Times reported that Roger Ailes secretly settled sexual harassment claims against O’Reilly, UltraViolet demanded the network fire O’Reilly.
  • UltraViolet launched and maintains an online ad campaign targeting Fox News employees with an ad reading: “Have You Been Harassed by Bill?
  • More than 79,000 UltraViolet members have signed onto a petition calling on 21st Century Fox to fire Fox News CEO Bill Shine and Fox News host Bill O’Reilly over their role in taking part in and covering up abuse at Fox News.
  • More than 60,000 UltraViolet members have signed onto a petition calling on advertisers to the O’Reilly Factor and Fox News to cut ties with the network over the lack of accountability for sex crimes.
