UltraViolet Responds to Uber Board Member David Bonderman’s Interruption, Sexist Comment Toward Arianna Huffington at Company-Wide Meeting

Billionaire and Uber board member David Bonderman apologized today after interrupting fellow board member Arianna Huffington during a company-wide meeting aimed at addressing sexual harassment and unprofessional conduct. Bonderman stated, “much more likely there’ll be more talking” in response Huffington’s explanation that adding more female representation to Uber’s board would benefit the company.

In response, Karin Roland, Chief Campaigns Officer at UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy organization, released the following statement:

“David Bonderman’s interruption and sexist remark toward a fellow board member during a meeting meant to address sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior sums up all we need to know about Uber’s toxic corporate culture. Bonderman’s remark proves that misogyny is a deeply rooted, systemic issue at Uber, and that it’s going to take a lot more than removing Travis Kalanick and a cheap apology to address this issue.”
