UltraViolet Responds to New Evidence that Johnny Manziel Hit, Threatened to Kill Girlfriend

Women’s Group Calls for Manziel to Be Suspended Without Pay Indefinitely

This afternoon, new evidence obtained by WFAA, revealed the full details of Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel’s domestic assault of his then-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, last week. According to the report, Manziel threatened to kill both himself and his then-girlfriend after forcing her into a car, hitting her and dragging her by the hair.

In reaction to the report, Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy organization that called for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to be fired over failing to address widespread issues of domestic violence in the League, issued the following statement:

“Sadly, this latest incident proves what we have known for some time: that the NFL will never address domestic violence against women as long as Roger Goodell remains its Commissioner.

Months ago, when multiple witnesses were forced to call 911 over a domestic violence incident involving Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel and his then-girlfriend, Roger Goodell and the Cleveland Browns failed to adequately investigate or hold Manziel accountable – clearing him of wrongdoing and imposing no disciplinary action.
