WED. 4PM: Sexual Assault Survivors & Advocates Rally Outside NY Commission on Judicial Conduct Demanding  Judge McClusky’s Immediate Removal From the Bench

Activists Will Deliver Over 200,000 Petition Signatures Calling for the Commission Remove Judge McClusky After He Let Child Rapist Off with No Jail Time in Sentencing Decision

NEW YORK CITY— On Wednesday, at 4:00 PM ET, survivors of sexual assault and women’s rights advocates will rally outside of the New York Commission on Judicial Conduct, calling for the removal of Jefferson County Supreme Court Judge James McClusky. In Judge McClutsky’s sentencing of Shane Piche, a school bus driver who confessed to raping a girl he met on his bus route, McClusky showed sympathy for Piche because he raped “only one” girl. According to UltraViolet, this is rape culture 101 — a white man in power protecting another white man over the survivor of his actions.

At the rally, advocates will deliver more than 200,000 signatures from petitions by UltraViolet and Care2 demanding that the Commission to remove McClusky from the bench immediately.

WHAT: Advocates of Sexual Assault Surivors to Rally, Deliver 200,000+ Signatures to NY Commission on Judicial Conduct

“McClusky’s justification for refusing to hold a confessed child sexual abuser accountable by explaining it was ‘only one’ girl is a horrifying reminder that our so-called justice system all too often prioritizes the well-being of white male perpetrators over the survivors of their crimes. McClusky clearly cannot be trusted to administer justice to survivors of sexual assault and his decision raises serious questions about his judgment,” said Shaunna Thomas, Executive Director of UltraViolet. “The  New York Commission on Judicial Conduct must know this and understand that it cannot be complicit with McClusky’s dangerous and callous disregard for survivors of sexual assault. The Commission of Judicial Conduct  must show survivors it will not stand for this disturbing show of rape culture in our courts and take the steps necessary to remove him from the bench immediately.”

Last week, more than 2200 survivors of sexual assault, and thousands of their loved ones signed onto UltraViolet’s letter calling on the New York Commission of Judicial Conduct to remove Jefferson County Supreme Court Judge James McClusky from the bench.
