Women’s Group: Baylor University Sexual Assault Survivors Deserve More

UltraViolet Says Starr’s Resignation Shows Progress on Tackling Campus Rape, But Says More Needs to Be Done

Waco, TX — Yesterday, Baylor University President Kenneth Starr stepped down as Chancellor of Baylor University, one week after stepping-down as President, after being criticized for not doing enough to address sexual assault.

In reaction to the news, Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy organization, issued the following statement:

“University administrators and athletic staff, including Kenneth Starr, are responsible for the safety and well-being of the students, and must be held accountable when they deliberately conceal and cover-up instances of rape and sexual assault.  But Starr’s resignation as Chancellor and President of Baylor University is not enough.

“University must implement comprehensive reporting policies, provide real support for survivors of sexual assault, and create a transparent and accountable process for punishing rapists and their defenders.”
