Women’s Group: “It’s Time for NBC to Clean House, Open Independent Investigation into Chiefs Andy Lack & Noah Oppenheim”
Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of the leading national women’s group UltraViolet, explained:
“Early excerpts from Ronan Farrow’s upcoming book make clear the widespread failure of NBC News to take serious action to hold sexual abusers – and the leadership that enabled them, namely Andy Lack and Noah Oppenheim – accountable.
“NBC’s initial internal investigation was a sham that merely confirmed what we already knew: The network cares more about shielding its executives and stars than protecting all its employees from abuse. This toxic culture is not limited to Matt Lauer and a few bad actors, but rather endemic to the network as a whole.
“We’ve seen what real change to address sexual abuse at a major network could look like: after firing Les Moonves, CBS now has an HR officer on every show and in every department, and a robust way to report complaints to an outside line. While no single policy can eliminate the pervasiveness of sexual abuse in the workplace, CBS has made it clear that they are committed to addressing the issues at the network and developing robust solutions to protect their employees from future predators.
