STATEMENT: Women’s Group On Ruling That Summer Zervos’ Lawsuit Against Trump Can Move Forward

New York, NY—A Manhattan Supreme Court judge ruled today that President Trump must to face a defamation lawsuit brought by former Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos. Justice Jennifer Schecter wrote in her ruling that a “sitting president is not immune from being sued in federal court for unofficial acts,” denying Trump’s “motion to dismiss this case or hold it in abeyance.” This ruling comes as Zervos, who accused Trump last year of sexually assaulting her in 2007, filed a lawsuit against the President for defamation after he suggested she made up the sexual assault allegations for “ten minutes of fame.”

In response to the ruling, Nita Chaudhary, Co-founder of UltraViolet, issued the following statement:

“More than 20 women have accused Donald Trump of sexual assault and harassment. Just as he has tried to do with Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, Trump has tried to threaten and silence these women. The decision to move forward with Summer Zervos’ case is an important victory, but we already know the truth: Donald Trump is a serial sexual predator who has assaulted numerous women. As we have seen over the last few weeks, these women will no longer be silent and that should scare the daylights out of Donald Trump.”
