Women’s Group Slams Bill Cosby for Plans to Host Town Hall Series Teaching Young People How to Avoid Sexual Assault Allegations

UltraViolet Pledges to Fight Against Cosby’s Town Halls and Any Venue That Condones Them

On Wednesday, June 21st, just days after the case against Bill Cosby was declared a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict on any of the three counts of sexual assault against him, news broke that Cosby is in the midst of organizing a series of “town halls” to educate young people, “especially athletes,” on how to avoid being faced with sexual assault charges.

Nita Chaudhary, Co-founder of UltraViolet, a leading women’s advocacy organization, issued the following statement in response to the news:

“When we first heard the announcement that Bill Cosby will be holding a series of town halls this summer to teach people how to avoid being accused of sexual assault—we thought it was a joke. Turns out, it’s not. Let’s call this tour what it really is: Bill Cosby’s ‘how to get away with rape and sexual assault’ tour. The fact that Cosby, a man who has admitted to drugging women with quaaludes, would have the audacity to travel the country teaching men how to avoid rape accusations is a disgusting display of rape culture in action. Any venue that hosts Bill Cosby’s ‘how to get away with rape’ tour will be complicit in promoting sexual violence against women and can expect UltraViolet members to hold them accountable.”
