Women’s Group Slams Kansas City Royals For Partnering With An Extremist Anti-Abortion Group

UltraViolet Launches Campaign Demanding Kansas City Royals “Stop Lying About Abortion,” End Partnership with the Vitae Foundation Immediately

KANSAS CITY — National women’s advocacy organization UltraViolet is demanding the Kansas City Royals baseball team cut ties with the Vitae Foundation, a prominent anti-abortion group, after recent announcements that the team will promote the Vitae Foundation’s anti-abortion propaganda during all 162 of their games and on the Royals Radio Network, including 60 affiliates in six states.

The baseball team will also project branded ads on video boards around the Royals stadium and ask children in grade school to write essays with an anti-abortion theme, rewarding their entries with game tickets.

Karin Roland, Chief Campaigns Officer at UltraViolet, explained:

“The Vitae Foundation lies and manipulates the public by spreading extreme, deceptive anti-choice propaganda not only to those seeking reproductive health care options, but also to young children. Their tactics are despicable and shockingly unethical: From telling women they will get cancer or suffer debilitating mental illnesses if they have an abortion to having staff with zero medical training dress up like nurses and doctors at their so-called ‘crisis pregnancy’ sham centers, this organization spreads lies—end of story.

“Make no mistake: This partnership is part of a deceptive anti-choice agenda, and the Kansas City Royals are not only condoning it, but willingly participating and amplifying it. Indoctrinating our youth and feeding lies to women while they are making decisions about their own bodies is unacceptable and shameful. We hope the Royals realize their mistake in promoting propaganda that misleads and mis-educates their fans and the public, and sever ties with the Vitae Foundation immediately.

“Baseball is a classic American pastime. Sadly, the Royals are making it a propaganda arm of an extreme group and their radical political agenda.”
