Women’s Group on Wynn’s Resignation As CEO and Chair of Wynn Resorts

Last night, news broke that Steve Wynn resigned as CEO and Chairman of Wynn Resorts. The announcement comes after the Wall Street Journal broke a story last month describing more than a dozen instances of sexual harassment and coercion allegations against Steve Wynn.

In reaction to the news, Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet, a leading women’s advocacy organization, issued the following statement:

“Steve Wynn had to go. He was a predator of the worst kind—one who used his position of power to sexually coerce his female employees. It’s not surprising that Wynn keeps close company with people like Donald Trump—a man who follows the same playbook of sexual abuse.

“Wynn’s resignation from the company that he founded and bears his name sends an important message to men everywhere: You can and will be held accountable for your actions no matter how powerful you are. But we should not pretend this is the end of this story. Much more needs to be done to protect hotel, restaurant, resort and casino workers—most of whom are women of color—not only on the Las Vegas strip, but in hotels across the country where sexual harassment and abuse are rampant.

“The Republican National Committee—where Wynn was Finance Chair—and all politicians who received Wynn’s money should prove that they stand with survivors of sexual assault, further disavow Wynn, and donate his contributions to charities founded to protect women.”
